Our School

Our governors

Ann Wheatcroft

I have been a teacher for over 25 years at 5 different schools in North Yorkshire. Prior to being appointed as Headteacher at Hookstone Chase seven years ago, I was Headteacher of a village school in the Harrogate District. I am extremely proud of the school improvement journey we have been on at Hookstone Chase and I continue to be ambitious for the school's continued development,  ensuring the best possible outcomes for all of our children.

Helen Flynn

Hookstone Chase is a fabulous community school, with great kids, supportive families and inspiring teachers, and I am very proud to be Chair of Governors here.  I have been a governor in a variety of schools, secondary, primary and an FE college, since my elder son was 5 years old—around 15 years.  I am aware of how important having the best possible start in life has on each child’s life chances, and it is something all the governors here have at the forefront of all the decisions we make.

I run my own e-commerce business and have held or currently hold a variety of community roles, including being an elected local HBC Councillor (2012-2016), being the prospective MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough (Lib Dem) at the 2015 General Election, and chairing a Government funded transport initiative in the Yorkshire Dales area, called DITA.  I am married with two grown up children (now in tertiary education) and live on a smallholding, keeping pigs and chickens and lots of other birds, in Darley.

Carolyn Hazell

I've been a teacher for almost thirty years, three of them at Hookstone. I have worked in London and Leeds for many years in various schools with various areas of responsibility. I love teaching and I am passionate about my work and the positive impact I can have with colleagues and children.

I coordinate maths and currently teach in a year 5/6 class. The staff I work with are committed to providing the children with the most creative and exciting maths curriculum they can and I enjoy leading them through this. The children at Hookstone are keen, enthusiastic, hardworking and a joy to teach and inspire.

My role as teacher governor is one I take very seriously and feel it is vital I represent my colleagues and their views and keep them informed with updates from governing body meetings.

Craig Goold

I am married with three children aged 8, 6 and 3. I am Australian but have been living in the UK for 9 years. I am the Director of Operations for Skipton Building Society and I have a Masters in Business Administration, achieved in 2004. I am Chairman of the Finance and Resource Committee and the link governor for Physical Education. I am really impressed with the work that Mr Moss is doing with the children which is instilling confidence as well as creating a framework for our teachers to continue to evolve PE across the school and above all is very inclusive but with a competitive edge.

Alison Johnson

I have previously trained as a nurse to work with people with learning difficulties. The skills I gained I still use now in my work as a self-employed chiropodist working in the community. In the past I have fought for the right of children with severe allergy to be allowed to attend leisure schemes and believe that no child should be excluded from any suitable activity on the grounds of mental or physical disability or health issues.

David Martin

I am married with two sons at the school. I have been a parent governor since October 2012 and am the vice chairperson of the resources committee and sit on the academy steering group. I am an IT specialist in the private sector and have been for the past 18 years with responsibilities for budgets which adds value to my role with the resources committee. My family has a long standing relationship with Hookstone Chase CP with my wife attending as a child and my mother was a teacher at the school for many years. In my spare time I coach junior football at Harrogate Railway Juniors.

Linnea Stokes

I have been a Community Governor at Hookstone Chase Primary School since September 2013.  I have a background in improving healthcare in the private and public sectors and now am a newly qualified teacher  working in Harrogate.  I am delighted to be part of the Governing Body of the School and would like to apply my management and service improvement skills together with my teaching knowledge and experience to make a positive difference to the continued advances in education and other achievements at the school.

Gill Kingston

I have been employed at Hookstone Chase for over five years and work providing Pupil and Parent Support. Previously I worked for many years as an HR Manager in both manufacturing and retail sectors across the country. I am a mum to 3 girls, aged 14, 12 and 10 who attend schools in KnaresboroughI love my work at Hookstone Chase and feel incredibly fortunate that I am able to contribute, even in a small way to this caring, inclusive and hard-working school community.

Victoria Fisher

I am married with two daughters, both of whom attend Hookstone Chase. I am the Assistant Transport Manager at the Leeds site of a national motor auction group. I am fortunate to have been a parent governor since October 2012. I sit on the Children and Curriculum Committee and I am the Child Protection and Safeguarding Governor. Through my family I have strong links to education, and I believe that a school should help every child to reach his or her full potential.

Michael Stansfield

I became a parent governor of the school in November 2016. I am married with two boys, both at Hookstone Chase.  I have lived in the Harrogate area since 1986, going to St Roberts primary for 1 year before attending Ripon Grammar School.  I only left the area for 4 years when I studied at Manchester University, gaining a Master of Chemistry degree.  Since leaving full time education I have worked in the Pharmaceutical industry, in sales, marketing and management roles.  I have held a number of positions, but I have always been based in Harrogate and am very proud of the town.  I feel very lucky to live in such a beautiful and vibrant part of the country.  I’m committed to help support the children of Hookstone Chase Primary School getting the best start in their life and setting them on the way to fulfilling their potential.

As well sitting on the ‘Local governing body’ I am a member of the ‘Finance and resources committee’ and am the Governor lead for the ‘Curriculum’ and ‘Physical education and sports development.

What is School Governance?

You may not see us around very much, as most of our work is “behind the scenes" in meetings that usually take place in the evenings (all of us have day jobs and so, as governors, we are volunteers!).  But the involvement of the governors is very important to the overall experience of all the children who attend Hookstone Chase.  Working with the Head and the Senior Leadership team, we set the strategic direction of the school and monitor and are ultimately accountable to central Government for the performance of the school.  We are here to support and challenge the Head and Senior Leaders, to ensure that children here get the most out of their time at Hookstone Chase—both from an academic and a pastoral point of view.

We are especially interested in helping to set and embed the ethos of the school, in particular, ensuring that the values that we, the staff, the parents and their children, have prioritised are at the centre of all the work and decisions of the staff and the governing body.

You can always contact me through the school office if you would to learn more about the work of the governing body, or would be interested in becoming a governor in the future.
