Our Governors

Helen Flynn- Chair of Governors

Hookstone Chase is a fabulous community school, with great children, supportive families and inspiring teachers, and I am very proud to be Chair of Governors here. I am also a Board Director of the Northern Star Academies Trust. I have been a governor in a variety of schools—primary, secondary and an FE college--since my elder son was 5 years old, around 17 years. I am aware of how important having the best possible start in life has on each child’s life chances, and it is something that all the governors here have at the forefront of all the decisions we make.

I started my career in book publishing as an editor before setting up my own business at the age of 27—many years ago!   I run a small property management business and currently hold a variety of community roles in the local area in charitable and third sector organisations. I am married with two grown up children and live on a smallholding, keeping pigs and chickens, peafowl and guineafowl, in Nidderdale.

Vivien Watson – Headteacher

Victoria Fisher – Parent Governor

I am married with two daughters, both of whom attend Hookstone Chase. I am the Compliance Manager for a large national automotive transportation company, with a fleet of around 800 HGVs. I am fortunate to have been a parent governor since October 2012. I sit on the Children and Curriculum Committee and I am the Child Protection and Safeguarding Governor. Through my family I have strong links to education, and I believe that a school should help every child to reach his or her full potential.

Michael Stansfield – Parent Governor

I became a parent governor of the school in November 2016. I am married with two boys, both at Hookstone Chase. I have lived in the Harrogate area since 1986, going to St Roberts Primary School for 1 year before attending Ripon Grammar School. I only left the area for 4 years when I studied at Manchester University, gaining a Master of Chemistry degree. Since leaving full time education I have worked in the Pharmaceutical industry, in sales, marketing and management roles. I have held a number of positions, but I have always been based in Harrogate and am very proud of the town. I feel very lucky to live in such a beautiful and vibrant part of the country. I’m committed to help support the children of Hookstone Chase Primary School getting the best start to life and setting them on the way to fulfilling their potential.

As well as sitting on the Local Governing Body, I am a member of the Finance and Resources Committee and am the Governor Lead for the School Improvement Priority of improving reading.

Carolyn Hazell – Staff Governor

I have been a teacher for more than 30 years, 5 of them at Hookstone. I have worked in London and Leeds for many years in various schools with various areas of responsibility. I love teaching and I am passionate about my work and the positive impact I can have with colleagues and children.

I co-ordinate mathematics and literacy across the school and currently teach in a Year 5 & 6 class. The staff I work with are committed to providing the children with the most creative and exciting mathematics and English curriculum they can and I enjoy leading them through this. The children are keen, enthusiastic, hardworking and a joy to teach and inspire.

Caroline Wright - Governor

I am married with two lovely daughters who are now pretty much grown up, 18 and 21, but still living with us at home. Other than my time at college in Cambridge, where I met my husband, I have lived in Harrogate most of my life.

After a number of years setting up and running a successful food business, I starting working for a small local ventilation Company. I have been with the Company 14 years (it’s not so small now!) and I am responsible for Human Resources and Operations.

As a new governor I look forward to supporting the school and board of governors in creating an environment where children have every opportunity to be the best that they can be.

Craig Goold – Governor

I am married with three children aged 13, 10 and 7. I am Australian but have been living in the UK for 14 years. I am Director of Operations for Skipton Building Society and I have a Masters in Business Administration achieved in 2004. I am Vice Chair of Governors and the Chair of the Resources Committee. I am currently the Link Governor for the School Improvement Priority of Leadership Development as well as the Premises and Health & Safety Governor. I have also been the Link Governor for Physical Education. I am really impressed with the work Mr Moss is doing with the children which is instilling confidence as well as creating a framework for our teachers to continue to evolve PE across the school and above all is very inclusive but with a competitive edge.

Gill Kingston –Governor

I have been employed at Hookstone Chase for approximately 10 years and work as the Inclusion Manager providing support for families and pupils. Previously I worked for many years as an HR Manager in both manufacturing and retail sectors across the county. I am a mum to 3 girls aged 18, 16 & 14 who attend school in Knaresborough. I love my work at Hookstone Chase and feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this caring, inclusive and supportive school.

Linnea Stokes - Governor

I have been a governor at Hookstone Chase Primary School since September 2013. I have a background in improving healthcare in the private and public sectors and am now a qualified teacher working in Harrogate. I am delighted to be part of the Governing Body of the School and would like to apply my management and service improvement skills together with my teaching knowledge and experience to make a positive difference to the continued advanced in education and other achievements at the school.
